Dear Father—
Your letter of Feb. 10th was received yesterday. I have received and acknowledged all your letters up to that time, and fully understand now, that the money was received. I wrote you in my last that I might have to go to Washington. Col. Ross is there now, and will probably settle the affair for me, so I may not have to go myself. My name was reported Capt. L. James but as it accompanied Bassett's, there can be no doubt who was meant. It was a pretty thorough blunder. Last night about 4 inches of snow fell, and the storm is still raging. Yesterday was as warm as a summer day—Hope I shall not Picket it any for a few days. Shall expect / the box in a few days. Is Slocum coming through with it? I rather doubt that Gen. Harland will be in Norwich for some time, as he went to Fortress Monroe more than a week ago. Col. Ross is working for a Brigade, and they say with some chance of success. He and Gov. B. have been together at Willard's for several days past. If he succeeds there will be promotions in the Reg. I hope he will get it. The mail leaves now, and I must close. With love to Mother, Sallie, Miss Maria Huntington and yourself. I remain your aff son
Charlie—
