Charles J. Arms to Hiram P. Arms, 5 March 1864
Norfolk Va Mch 5th 1864
Dear Father,
The General, Goddard, Griffin and I arrived here Thursday morning.
Yesterday Gen. H. went over to the Fortress to get his orders, which were to report to Maj. Genl. Peck in N. Carolina. He is to be stationed either at Beaufort or Little Washington. We hope it will be the former place, that being a very healthy and pleasant location in summer. Our Brigade seems to be permanently broken up. Perhaps when Burnside gets ready to move the Gen. and the 8th & 11th will be ordered to report to him. Till then we shall be in N.C. When we get located I will send you my address. We found a great change in the weather here. It is beautiful summer weather now. There was snow four inches deep when we left Baltimore. I got the package of letters you sent, for which I thank you. Will answer Mother's when I get settled—Much love to self, Mother & Frank from
Yr aff son Charlie.
[overleaf]
Charlie
