Affectionate Brother I now seat myself five miles from Louisville on picket to write you a few lines that you may know that I am well and hope that these few lines may find you all enjoying the same blessing. We have now five sick in our Company but still able to eat their share. Last Wednesday we left our camp and went to Covington not knowing where were going to go from there about three oclock thursday morning they put us on a boat and started us off in the morning we rode untill about noon when we stuck / fast in a sand bar and they had to work about tow hours before they got us off then they went on nicely untill night when we all lay down to sleep. in the morning we found ourselves at louisville. We landed at one oclock that night they said. Fryday we went about tow miles back in town and camped there Fryday evening General Beuals army came and camped there then saturday we had a nice time for the thirty fifth was with him. I saw Gim Bone and all of the neighbor boys there. they are pretty near all well a few of them was left at Nashville sick they have been traveling for two weeks averging from 20 to / 25 miles a day. there is now about from 125 to 150 thousand men here now and are expecting a brush with General Braig. all of our Regiment is out on picket to day. I am sitting under an appel tree writing while the the others are watching for the enemy. there is twenty two at this post. as it is almost supper time i will draw my letter to a close for i have nothing of much importance to write any how. Write soon tell all of the folks I am harty and well. tell them to write for i would be glad to hear from them.
