Camp near Cagsville Gorgia.
Dear Mother Brother and Sister
I am again permited by the blessing of a kind providence to write you another letter, and comfort your feelings by letting you know that I am in excelent health and have stood our marches very well. I suppose that you have heard about our being in battle and therefore you are anxious to know how we came out. I will begin at the time our corps came in contact with the enemy. there had been some fighting before that. May 13th our advance guard struck the rebs. a part of the corps formed / a line of battle and fought them, driving them from their first line of works. on the 14th our Brigade was brought to the front line but done nothing except slight skirmishing. two men killed and two wounded in our regt. on sunday the 15th we changed our position to another place, and at about 12 oclock our Brigade charged a fort and captured four pieces of artilery. it was said by Gen Hooker and others that it was the most wicked and daring charge they ever saw. our Brigade lost about four hundred and forty five (445) killed and wounded. 54 killed. our company lost three killed, one wounded so that he died the / next day. Lieut. Welkesson was shot through the left rist. I will give the names of the lost in our company

Deserters come in daily. we have possesion of Kingston. some of our troops are still plowing. I believe there is nothing more that I can tell you about the battle, or nothing that I think of now. I saw Jeniah st John a few days ago he is in good health. I received Emma's letter of the 8th yesterday. my sheet is full so I must close. Ever your son and Brother,
