Vicksburg Miss April 8th 1863
Dear Wife
I send you those few lines to inform you that I am well and harty at this time and I hope that those few lines will come safle to hand and find you and all of the family all well and doing well I recieved your letter in dew time and was glad to hear from you one time more but I was sorrey to hear that you had such an attact of the ded palsey I wish I could hav ben there but it is so that we cant be together no matter what ails us but I hope that the day is not far distant when we will se each other and then we can talk of our troubles and our pleshars and of the times past / dear wife you wrote that you wanted me to write oftener I hav ritten to you constant but the falt is in the mail if they mail agents would do there dewty you and me and all the solgers would get there letters and get them in dew time so I dont want you to think hard of me for I expect to keep writing to you as long as I stay in camp and I want you to do the same I want to se you all the worst in the world but the Chanct is bad for a well man to get a furlough hear there is some of the sick boys getting to go home but they will not let a well man go home now but I hope that we will all get furloughs this summar so try and liv in heart if we dy in despar and hope for the better /
there is not much stur hear ther is no fighting going on hear we are all quiett the regment is gon up the river it went up there yesterday it will be back in a few days I expect I hardley think there will be any fighting hear there comes a flag of truse down to town every day from the yankey fleete that is up the river I do not know what it means but I hope that they are a working for peace May the Lord grant us peas one time more
dear wife if you should get so that you cant attend to the children I want you to get Cousan Sallie Clark to come and attend to you for I think that she will do as well or better than any body you can get tel the boys I want them to push ahead and make all the corn they can / tel Thomas to tel his uncle Sam Miller to write to me for I hav looked a long time for a letter from him and I hav not seen it yet. Chittwoods Company has mooved a bout 5 miles above town we are a bout 7 miles apart. John C Aldred is well and gon with the regment James Loftis is well and my neighbors boys are all jeneralley well. well a few words a bout our rashens we get tolerable plenty of bred and meete now we get along very well a bout something to eat now we draw hog meete nearley all the time
well I must come to a close for this time you kneede not send me any more close nor any thing to eat for the presant for I have got aplenty to eat and ware and when I want any thing I will send you word So houdy and Good by from your Affectionate
