Dear Brother
      I take my pen in hand once more to let you know that I am well at presant and I hope these few lines will find you the same I received your letter a few days ago and I was glad to hear that you was well and going to school
 
we was paid off last saturday and I stole out of the Camp yesterday and we drinked and eat oyesters all day and at knight we went / to a theater and I bought penknife with six blades in it for $1 and 25cts and a vest for $2 it is wet rainy raining snowing and aufol muddy here now there has been a big battle in summerset Co in kentucky the report is a very heavy loss on both sides but our men whiped them and drove them from there Campes I cannot think of any thing more at present So Good By this is from L Brant to Porter Brant

I take my pen in hand to answer your letter that I received a few / days since I am well at present and hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same you wrote that you had a good time chrismas and Newyears I had a good time Chrismas but Newyears I did not we got paid off last saturday and yesterday stole out of Camp and went down town and carried on all day long and at night went to a theater and there we had a good time and to night I am going to a great concert the Black swan this is all at present
