Dear Parents
I received your letters of the 20th & 24th yesterday We are both well as usual & not a scratch as yet I was engaged with the Gray Backs all day yesterday & fired something like 90 Rounds. I presume we shall be called upon to go in to day Yet their is but little danger as yet we are used now we have good cover in rifle pitts & loose but few men. we lost but 1 killed & 1 wounded yesterday in the Reg. We have had some pretty hard fighting & look for some more. I have no time to write particulars so you must excuse short / letters untill we get into camp I have had some pretty clost shooting not more than 4 rods & at a line of Battle too We had to gig back for the first time then as there was nothing but a skirmish line In this fight we lost the most of our killed & wounded. We have lost 11 killed & 10 wounded 2 missing in the whole fight Our Company is gitting quite small but good for their size I must now close my love to all & I Remain

Your Affectionate Son
O Sanford
