Carrie Pratt was born in August 1849 in Winfield, New York, to Parsons and Martha Pratt. Her father was a minister who owned $600 of personal property by 1860. The family lived in Winfield until the 1850s, when they moved to Dorset, Vermont. She married Charles Gilbert on May 31, 1875, and they had at least six children: Huntington, born around 1876; Alfred, born around 1878; Anna, born around 1881; Margaret, born around 1884; Gertrude, born around 1886; and Rufus, born around 1889. They lived in Dorset, and her husband worked as a farmer. Her husband died in 1926, and by 1930, she was living in her daughter Anna’s household in Dorset. She died there of “carcinoma of the liver” on December 26, 1932.
