Louise Ludlow Breckenridge (maiden name: Dudley) was born on February 20, 1849, to prominent Kentucky physician, Ethelbert Ludlow Dudley, and his wife, Mary Scott Dudley. She married Joseph Cabell Breckenridge on July 21, 1868. Over the next twenty-two years, they had thirteen children, four of whom died in infancy. The children to survive past infancy were Mary Dudley, born around 1869; Joseph Cabell, Jr., born around 1872; Ethelbert Ludlow Dudley, born around 1876; Lucien Scott, born around 1878; Lucy Hayes, born around 1881; Scott Dudley, born around 1882; Henry Skillman, born around 1886; Margaret Scott Skillman, born around 1889; and John Preston, born around 1890. The family lived in Washington, D.C., from at least 1880 to 1900 and were living in Annapolis, Maryland by 1910 according to U.S. Census records. She died on September 19, 1911, and is buried next to her husband in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky.
