Helen S. Doan

Helen S. Doan (maiden name: Sawyer) was born on May 5, 1865 in Jacksonville, Illinois, to Charles K. and Virginia Sawyer. In 1900, she was living with her sister, Iola V. Kind, in Jacksonville, and worked as a bookkeeper for the Gas City Company, the same company her husband would later work for. By 1910, she had begun boarding with the Camp family in Jacksonville and worked as an auditor for the Railroad and Light Company. She married Frank Macnamara Doan as his second wife on October 7, 1911, in Chicago. The couple did not have any children. By 1920, they had moved to Dade County, Florida. Helen did not receive a pension following her husband’s death on April 25, 1928. She died in 1945 in Dade County.
