Rebecca Roberts Gillis

Rebecca Roberts Gillis (maiden name: Rebecca Stokes Roberts) was born to Joseph Roberts and his wife in Alexandria, Virginia, in about 1812. In late 1837, she married James Melville Gillis. They had six children: Rebecca M., born around 1838; James, born around 1840; Fanny, born around 1844; John R., born around 1845; William, born around 1845; and George M., born around 1848, who later died in childhood of scarlet fever in 1853. The family lived in both Bladensburg, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Rebecca died on June 13, 1892, and is buried alongside her husband in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
