Mary Ann Mater (maiden name: Galey) was born on March 2, 1853, in Indiana. She married Jacob D. Mater in 1870. She later gave birth to a son who died in infancy. She died on October 6, 1875, presumably in Bridgeton, Parke County, Indiana, and left no surviving children. She is buried in Clear Run Cemetery in Parke County.
