Nancy Jane Starke

Nancy Jane Starke (maiden name: Speer) was born to Mary E. and Andrew J. Spear in 1842 in Kentucky. The family had moved to Sutter County, California, by 1860 where her father worked as a farmer. Nancy married Robert W. Starke on June 27, 1860, in Marysville, California, but the two later divorced shortly after Nancy gave birth to a son, Solon Robert R. Starke, around the year 1861. Nancy subsequently married a man named John A. Smith in 1864. By 1870, both her son Solon and her five-year-old daughter by her second marriage, Jenny Smith, were living with her parents, indicating that she may have died before the 1870 census was taken.
