Mary Isabelle Deems

Mary Isabelle Deems (maiden name: Flack) was born on January 29, 1824 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, to James and Rachel Jamison Flack. She met James Monroe Deems in Baltimore, Maryland, and they married on October 14, 1844. She accompanied James to Charlottesville, where he worked as a music instructor at the University of Virginia from 1848 to 1858. They had four children: Florence, born in 1845; James, born in 1848; Clarence, born in 1851; and Charles William, born in 1860. Mary preceded her husband in death, passing away due to unknown causes on August 5, 1885 in Baltimore. She is buried in Green Mount Cemetery with her husband.
