In 1870, The Holt County Sentinel supported Isaac P. Caldwell's candidacy to become a circuit court judge. The editor praised him as an "able lawyer and an upright citizen of irreproachable character."
For Circuit Judge
We this week announce the Hon. I.P. Caldwell, of Gentry country, as a candidate for Circuit Judge. Mr. Caldwell’s nomination is warmly urged by his friends in the eastern part of the district, who claim for him superior qualifications as an able lawyer and an upright citizen of irreproachable character and habits. His personal popularity in the eastern part of the district would make him a strong man before the people on the 8th day of November. Mr. C. was a soldier during the war, and supports the regular McClurg ticket.
