Amanda Loving (maiden name: Graham) was probably born in Virginia on April 2, 1811, to Alexander Graham and Anna Herdman. Her father was a farmer who moved the family to Bowling Green, Kentucky, sometime in the 1810s. She married lawyer William Voltaire Loving in Warren County, Kentucky, on January 5, 1829, and they had at least four children together: Hector Voltaire, born on September 8, 1839; William A., born around 1844; John A., born around 1847; and Laura, born around 1853. The family lived in Bowling Green until around 1870, when William and Amanda moved to Louisville, Kentucky. She probably died there on April 5, 1881. She was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery.
