Comfort Mead (maiden name: Rogers) was born on April 21, 1817, in Bartlett, New Hampshire, to Joshua and Lucretia Rogers. Her father was a farmer. She married James Mead on June 28, 1836, and they had at least eleven children: James, who was born in 1837 and died in 1855; Joseph, born around 1838; Jonathan, born around 1841; Willis, born around 1842; Charles, born around 1846; Francis, born around 1847; Juliette, born around 1850; Sarah, born around 1852; Lewis, born around 1854; Susan, born around 1857; and James, born around 1859. The family lived in Bartlett, and her husband worked as a farmer there. By 1860, they owned $700 of real estate and $400 of personal property. A decade later, they owned $1,500 of personal property. By 1900, they were living in their son James’s household in Bartlett. Her husband died there on August 25, 1900, and she followed on October 19, 1911.
