Ann Lowry (maiden name: Walker) was born on January 10, 1818, in Stokes County, North Carolina. She married Hugh A. Lowry there on May 14, 1838, and they had at least eight children: John, born around 1839; William, born around 1841; Addison, born around 1844; Hugh, born around 1848; Martha, born around 1850; Mary, born around 1852; Samuel, born around 1855; and Ann, born around 1858. They settled in Guilford County, North Carolina, and her husband worked as a farmer. In 1850, they owned $700 of real estate, and a decade later, they owned $2,000 of real estate and $4,050 of personal property. Her husband died around 1861, and her son William died in the Battle of Gettysburg two years later. She remained in Guilford County after the war, and by 1870, she owned $1,100 of real estate and $300 of personal property. She died on December 1, 1893.
