Nancy Camp was born on May 16, 1849, in Woodford, Vermont, to Jonas and Derexa Camp. She grew up in Woodford, and her father died around 1850. By 1870, she was living in her mother’s household in Bennington, Vermont, and she was working in a cotton mill. She married Union veteran Charles F. Bent around 1872, and they had six children, including: William, born around 1873; James, born around 1875; Ella, born around 1881; and Edward, born around 1889. They lived in Bennington, and her husband worked in a mill. Charles died around 1895, and she secured a widow’s pension soon afterward. She remained in Bennington for the rest of her life. By 1910, her four surviving children were all living in her household. She died there of endocarditis and myocarditis on October 15, 1926.
