Charles Beck was born around 1820 in Pennsylvania. He married a woman named Mary, and they had at least eight children: Edward, born around 1845; Jacob, born around 1847; Charles, born around 1849; Mary, born around 1851; Harriet, born around 1854; Rosalie, born around 1856; Sarah, born around 1859; and Susan, born around 1863. They settled in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, and Beck worked as a plasterer. By 1850, he owned $30 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $1,000 of real estate and $100 of personal property, and by 1870, his wealth had grown to $4,000 of real estate and $200 of personal property. He died of tuberculosis and pneumonia in Sunbury on March 24, 1871.
