Lydia Curtiss Tibbits
Lydia Curtiss Tibbits (maiden name: Phelps) was born on April 3, 1815, in Paris, New York. She married Jackson Tibbits on September 20, 1836, and they had at least two children: Catherine, born around 1839; and Sarah, born around 1841. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, around 1841, then to Appleton, Wisconsin, around 1851. Her husband worked as a farmer and “lumber factor,” and by 1860, they owned $17,000 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property. A local writer described her as a “genial, lady-like person [and] a great church worker.” They moved to Antigo, Wisconsin, around 1881, and her husband died there on December 29, 1892. She passed away on May 12, 1894.
