William Barton was born around 1809 in Pennsylvania. He eventually moved to Portage, Ohio, and he married Philena Wilson there on August 31, 1832. They had at least four children: Eliza, born around 1833; John, born around 1839; Sophronia, born around 1841; and Walter, born around 1844. They lived in Portage, and Barton worked as a distiller. They moved to Wadsworth, Ohio, in the 1850s, and Barton worked as a miller there. By 1860, he owned $200 of personal property. They moved to Norton, Ohio, in the 1860s, and his wife died sometime in the 1870s. By 1880, he was living in his daughter Eliza’s household in Bainbridge, Ohio. He died sometime after 1880.
