Daniel Wilson Partin, Jr., was born around 1839 in Virginia to Daniel and Martha Partin. His father was a farmer who died sometime in the 1850s. By 1860, Partin was a “farm manager,” and his family owned at least 6 slaves. He enlisted in the Confederate army on April 24, 1861, at Chesterfield Court House, and he mustered in as a private in Company D of the 14th Virginia Infantry the following day. The regiment fought in the Seven Days’ Battles, the Second Battle of Manassas, and the Battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. Partin was wounded in the left arm at Gettysburg and died on July 23, 1863.
