Mary B. Katon was born on March 19, 1844, in Pittston, Maine, to Alexander and Grace Katon. Her father was a farmer who owned $1,200 of real estate and $416 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in Pittston, and she married Albert Allen around 1870. They had two children: Sadie, born around 1871; and Elton, born around 1877. They lived in Pittston, and her husband worked as a farmer. She helped care for her elderly mother until at least 1900. Her husband died in the early 1900s, and by 1910, she was living in her sister Lauraett’s household in Chelsea, Maine. She died on September 1, 1932, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
