Dear wife & children
Arrived here Saturday morning about half past 2 well Saturday morning I visited the Capitol it is a splendid structure Whe are we encamp about 3 miles from Wasington I dont no how long whe shall stay here Whe where cheerd all the way hartaley until whe got to Baltimore they treated us sivel there the weather is cold here I have felt the / cold here more than I did in Augusta I saw Lemuel in Boston he did not find me until I got within a few rods of the cars it was about 8 oclock when whe got in to Boston there was a accident hapent to the engin & delaid us about 2 ours Lemuel went in to the cars with me and stayed untill the cars was readey to start whe whent to fall River in the cars then whe took a boat run down Long Iland Sound & was landed in Jersey citey took the cars there & went to Philidelphia / whe had a good colation there whe were treated with great respect there it is a splendid place I never saw a place I liked the look of so well whe went from there to Deliware they ceered us considerable through Deliware & a part of Mary Land whe have not ben Paid yet I sined the Alotment roll in August at $12 per month they told me it would be deliverd to you without cost to you I send you some sasifras bark that grew on a tree near by our encampment it makes good Sice
