John Milton Dill was born around 1847 in Ohio to William and Evaline Dill. His father was a farmer who owned $12,760 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property by 1860. His mother died on August 15, 1848. He grew up and attended school in Turtle Creek, Ohio, and he married Martha E. St. John around 1869. They had at least four children: Evelyn, born around 1870; William, born around 1877; Heber, born around 1880; and Lelia, born around 1882. They lived in Turtle Creek, and Dill worked as a farm laborer. By 1870, he owned $200 of personal property, and he employed at least one white domestic servant. By 1910, he was living in his daughter Lelia’s household in Turtle Creek. He died in 1915.
