Detailed History

The inn was established sometime in the 1930s and ran until at least 1951. The Green Book listed it until 1955. It was owned by Juanita Lopez Beasley with her husband Ernest Beasley, who served as the manager. They advertised the inn as “Where Westchester Meets New York” and served Chinese and American fare. The Butterfly Inn was also well known for its dancing scene and drinks, served by a local favorite, bartender Bob Roberts. Juanita was also associated with Shahana Beauty Salon, another Green Book site in Tuckahoe.
