Detailed History
The Grand Opening of "Long Branch's Newest Bar and Grill" was announced in the local newspaper, The Daily Record, in an ad published on 12 April, 1938, (p.12). Club 45 appears in the paper through the 1940s and '50s, mostly for renewal of their liquor license but occasionally it is noted for noise complaints or disorderly conduct. There are newspaper notices as late as 1973. The club and the entire block of Liberty Street on which it stood were razed in the mid-1970s for "urban renewal projects.
