Detail Page Text:

Dallas Nicholas (1904-1966) was an attorney who graduated from Howard University Law School in 1933 and was Thurgood Marshall’s classmate. He moved to Baltimore in 1933 and opened his law practice with William I. Gosnell at 14 East Pleasant Street, which is the address used in the Green Book listing for the Monumental Golf Club. Although the newspapers called the firm Nicholas and Gosnell when discussing cases they were involved in, they were not formally a partnership. The practice focused on civil matters such as divorces, wills and estates and personal injury. Perhaps Nicholas’ biggest accomplishment was helping to found the Monumental Golf Club and by working with the City Park Board, becoming the public voice for African American golfers to gain access to Baltimore’s courses (see listing for Monumental Golf Club). Originally from Philadelphia, Nicholas passed away in 1966.
