Harry and Mildred Graves purchased the property in 1956 and changed the name to the Graves Hotel. Although the Graves attempted a campaign to advertise the hotel, they did not list in the Green Book after 1953. One issue was certainly the discrimination that guests faced when visiting. While they could sail in St. Patrick's Creek, they were told they could not visit the town's post office.
