Detailed History

The Hill Top Inn, along with the Mrs. M.A. Green Tourist Home, and the Bertha Hotel. formed a small community of Green Book sites located on this single block of Meeting St. With very steep topography, the street to the east is interrupted by a set of stairs, as the pitch is too angled to drive. Listed in The Green Book between 1938 and 1940, the only name associated with the site is Milton H. Phillips, who is appears in the directories as a clerk. Phillips occupied the building until 1949; his whereabouts after that are unknown. 72 Meeting St. survives today as part of the College Hill Historic District.
