Description

The address of the Huntington Motel was 331 W. Jericho Tpke (Rt. 25), Huntington, Suffolk County, NY. According to a local newspaper, a building permit was issued for a one-story masonry motel on the site in 1955. Since 1997, the location has served as a car dealership.

Detailed History

The original motel was built in 1955 and was added to the Green Book in 1963. Local newspapers posted advertisements for job openings and for the car dealership next door, which advertised it was next to the motel, as well as reports of crime happening around or on the premises. In the mid-1990s, the hotel was part of a program for housing homeless people and those on social services. Local politicians put an end to the practice, which locals believed attracted drug addicts and prostitutes. In 1997, the motel was demolished to make way for a car dealership.
