Detailed History

Originally built as "Boyer's Hotel" in the 1910s and run by the namesake family as featured on Sanborn maps dating to 1924. Leroy Smith bought it in 1932 and ran it until his death in 1959. Smith had a long history working in hotel management before buying the property and is listed as a hotel/restaurant proprietor in the 1940 census. Special events, including for nearby Lake Shore High School, and sponsorship of a weekly bowling league team in Angola, New York, and the Town of Evans, made this a well-known local hangout location for decades. Converted into convalescence home shortly after Leroy's death, which took place after a fall on the hotel's steps. Convalescence home went by the name of "Green Gables".
