A native of Mississippi, Ephraim B. T. Gaylor (1904-1978) married Ruth Crump (1906-1982) in 1936 and purchased a home at 253 Natchez Street by 1940; he worked as a butler and chauffer for a private famiy and she worked as a practical nurse in a private home. Located adjacent to Shorter Chapel AME Zion Church in Natchez Street Historic District (NR-listed, 2004). Built around 1900, 1.5-story frame shotgun-style house has stone veneer and a circa 1940 side addition; the house is Contributing to the NR-listed historic district. WCHS historic marker for "Franklin's Green Book Entry" erected 2/2020
