Detailed History

Rainbow Acres was a resort in Kerhonkson, NY that welcomed Black clients. According to an article about a fire at Rainbow Acres in The Daily Freeman from August 8, 1960, the establishment was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ellison Fronenberger. Rainbow Acres was advertised in The Baltimore Afro-American (August 4, 1956) for its ability to provide a “complete vacation.” The establishment boasted furnished guest rooms, delicious meals, a regulation swimming pool, recreation room, tennis courts, and more.
