The service station at this location on Albany Avenue was an Atlantic Gas franchise. No information on who Sam was can be found, other than he operated the station in 1949 and 1950 when it was listed in the Hartford City Directories; the names in the Directories along Albany Avenue from this period suggest a neighborhood of immigrants. It seems that the station changed hands frequently, as in 1946 it was Nick's Atlantic Service and in 1951 is listed as the Jay-Zee Atlantic Station.
The building is now home to Q-P Cleaners, a family-owned laundromat business. The present owner said the space was converted into a cleaners as early as the 1960s, when the owners of Sam's sold the property to her family, but the corner entrance can still be seen beneath the modern rounded entry portico.
