Detailed History

Sam’s Restaurant moved into the former site of Crystal Restaurant in 1961. In 1980, the business moved down the street to 556 Broadway, where it was a popular community staple. It was also known as “Sam’s Family Restaurant.” The business was owned by Samuel Cooper and his wife Louise, and “ranked No. 1 in the city for fine food.” Sam and Louise also owned the New Peach Tree Inn at 134 Peach Tree Road, Cheektowaga. The City of Buffalo took possession of the 556 Broadway property in 1986. Today the 534 Broadway address is an empty lot.
