Description

Built between 1900 and 1926, 175 William Street extended from the previously constructed 173 William Street. The original building at 173 William Street, numbered 73 William Street in 1900, consisted of a main, two-story residential frame building with a porch, which was later enclosed. To the rear, there was a separate two-story building that served as a dwelling. The 175 William Street extension added a restaurant and a store front at 173 William Street.

Detailed History

During the 1940s and 1950s, the Silver Star Restaurant operated from 175 William Street. By 1954, the building contained a furniture shop operated by Michael Tartick and had housing to the rear. In 1954, the structure suffered $3,500 in fire damage. Three of the residents leapt from a second-story window in the rear and landed upon a mattress. Two others fled successful through a stairwell. The owner at the time was Al Franklin. Currently, more recent houses occupy the space, facing east towards Pine Street.
