Description
The original structure is currently occupied by the Babylon Beach House Senior Residence. The building is a single-story, semi-circular structure. It has stuccoed walls, a flat roof, and various types of windows and doors that lead to rooms entered directly from a covered porch that surrounds much of the building. The original administrative area, now drastically altered, used to have a brick facade and a shed roof sloping away from the parking area in front of the building. A sign once displayed the name of the motel in a four-lobed amoeba-like shape.
Detailed History
Built in 1953, the St. Moritz Motel operated as such until 1965 when it was converted into a nursing home and renamed the Babylon Beach House Senior Residence. Post-card research conducted in 2023 informs us that a portion of the senior living facility is in the same building as the former motel.
