The Stephens Bowie Hotel in Bowie stood on the east side of the Old Laurel-Bowie Road near the intersection of the road with 5th Street. Alexander W. Stephens was the owner and manager. He was active in the Nationwide Hotel Association, the African-American hotel association that was established to ensure uniform standards for all hotels. Stephens became President of Region 2 (mid-Atlantic Region) before passing away in 1957.
