Detailed History

The records contain very little information about the Dixieland Tavern. The business appears in the 1947 Providence directory as the Dixie Land Cafe, owned by Joseph Niep and located at 1049 Westminster. But after that, beginning in 1948 and running through 1955, the site is home to the Rendezvous Cafe Liquors, the Zanzibar Liquors, and the Club Down Beat. The building was demolished c. 1950.
