Detailed History
The Eaton Guest House stood in the southwest corner of the US 301 (the former Robert Crain Highway) at the Leland Road interesection. The building was demolilshed as part of the State Roads Commission's late 1950s improvements to US 301 north of Upper Marlboro. The house stood on the A. Gwynn Bowie Farm that was south of Leland Road on the west side of US 301. Mr. Eaton may have worked on the farm, but additional research is necessary. Caind's Highway is likely what someone heard as the address, but Robert Crain was a Southern Maryland farmer who persuaded the Maryland State Government to build a new highway in the 1920s that connected Southern Maryland with Baltimore City.
