Detailed History
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel opened in 1927 and the architects were Warren and Wetmore, a New York firm who specialized in hotel construction. They provided the design to Captain William Matson, owner of the Matson Steamship Lines which traveled between Hawaii and California. It is the westernmost hotel on Waikiki and retains its bright pink exterior that is reflective of its 1920s construction.
