Joseph Leach Jumper
Joseph L. Jumper was born on April 9, 1823, in Dexter, Maine, to Edward D. Jumper and Sally Caldwell. His father was a farmer. Jumper grew up and attended school in Dexter, and he married Frances Helen Titus there on June 6, 1859. Jumper worked as a farmer, and in 1860, he owned $14,011 of real estate and $1,631 of personal property. Their daughter Minnie was born on October 19, 1861, but Frances died a week later, on October 27, 1861. Jumper remained in Dexter and began working as a carpenter. He died there on February 15, 1901.
