William Booth was born in England on October 1, 1820, and he married Ann Kiddle there in the early 1840s. They had at least eight children: George, born around 1844; Alfred, born around 1846; Herbert, born around 1848; Emily, born around 1850; Harriet, born around 1852; Mary, born around 1854; Kate, born around 1858; and Charles, born around 1859. The family immigrated to America around 1849 and settled in Brooklyn, New York. They moved to Buffalo in the early 1850s, and Booth worked as a plumber, painter, and glass stainer. In 1860, he owned $2,000 of real estate and $300 of personal property. A decade later, he had $3,000 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property. He died in Buffalo on April 3, 1892.
