Ernest Simon was born around 1850 in Rhode Island to Henry and Catherine Simon. His father was a jeweler who owned $6,400 of real estate by 1860. Simon grew up and attended school in Providence, Rhode Island. He probably served in the Union army alongside his father. He died of typhoid fever in September or October 1864.
