Emily Forder was born on June 6, 1849, in Indiana to William and Maria Forder. Her father was a farmer who owned $7,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in Washington, Indiana, and by 1870, she was working as a domestic servant. She married Thomas Plews on January 28, 1871. According to family tradition, she had several children whom she gave up for adoption.
She may have divorced her husband sometime in the 1870s, and she married Jervis Silliman around 1878. They lived in Preston Lake, Minnesota, and Silliman worked as a farmer. She apparently divorced Silliman in the 1880s, and she married William Griffin on December 2, 1878. By 1900, they were living in Mondovi, Washington. Griffin died around 1905, and she married Henry Dutheridge around 1909.
They lived in Justice, Texas, until the 1910s, when they moved to Kirbyville, Texas. Dutheridge worked as a cook, and by 1930, they owned a home valued at $1,250. Dutheridge died around 1932, and by 1940, she was living in Maricopa County, Arizona. She died of “cardiac collapse” in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 11, 1949.
