Milo Alfred Jones
Milo Alfred Jones was born on April 29, 1843, in Hunter, New York, to Benjamin and Catherine Jones. His father was a farmer who owned $4,000 of real estate and $1,100 of personal property by 1860. The family lived in Hunter until the 1850s, when they moved to Jewett, New York. By 1860, he was working as a farm laborer.

He enlisted in the Union army on August 9, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company F of the 120th New York Infantry on August 22. According to his service records, he was 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. The regiment took part in the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville, and the Battle of Gettysburg. He was wounded in the thigh at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, and Union officials transferred him to the 24th Veteran Reserve Corps in March 1864. In the spring of 1865, he spent several weeks guarding Ford’s Theatre after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. He mustered out on June 28, 1865.

He moved to New Milford, Illinois, after the war, and he married Sarah E. Brown on February 20, 1868. They had at least two children: Ellen, born around 1871; and Alice, born around 1873. He worked as a grain dealer. He applied for a federal pension in May 1879 and eventually received one. He died in Byron, Illinois, on February 24, 1903.
